6 Podcasts that I'm Loving and You Should be Listening to...
Sometimes it feels like everybody and their mama and uncle have a podcast. So because of this it can be hard to know what is out there and filter through what you should actually be listening to. I am here to offer some of my new favorites and why I think you should add it to your list:
The James Brown Mystery
Was the Godfather of Soul murdered?? Follow this CNN reporter down a rabbit hole after a phone call from a songwriter from James Brown’s inner circle declares that she is absolutely certain James Brown was murdered and she can prove it. This is absolutely the podcast for anyone into conspiracy theories and meandering through the twists and turns of the life and tumultous events surrounding James Brown. There was more than one occasion where I uttered,”What in the World!” out loud.
The Weirdest Thing I learned this Week
There is a lot of crazy stuff going on in the science and technology world and I simply do not have the time to comb through all the sources to stay updated. Thank you Popular Science for curating this weekly treat for us all. The team shares weird and fun facts that are actually true and supported by real research and real time company practices and occurances. There are crazy topics like - Knives for Hands, Vampire Fish Invasion, Cubed Poops and Forked Penises. This is absolutely for you if you like science and the strange and unusual.
Conviction
Y’al!, If you are into true crime then pull up a chair and put in your earbuds because this podcast will give you everything you are looking for. I was pulled in by the two part series they did “The Scariest Case You’ve Never Heard Of” and man I was at the end of those two 40 minute episodes with my mouth agape at the atrocity that is the American justice system. I can also vouch for the Conviction of Max B who is a Harlem rapper convicted to 75 years in prison for a murder that occured when he was no where in the vicinity of where the crime actually occured. Both are very detailed stories with first person accounts and solid journalistic reporting.
Frozen Head
This is a podcast for you if you enjoy a well told story. This podcast takes a look at the quest for immortal life and the lengths that people will go to achieve that very thing. We follow the dream of one man - Laurence Pilgream - to be frozen and brought back to life in the future. The podcast looks at Cryonics as an area of study and business and we go on a lot of twists and turns to find out if Laurence actually manages to at least pulloff part of his dream and be frozen for prepartion for the medical advances of the future that will bring him back to life. NO SPOILERS. Its only seven 30 - 45 minute episodes. Perfect for a long drive.
Nosy Neighbors
Do you spend anytime scrolling the Next Door app to see what type of crazy is going on in your neighborhood? Are you not above a little rubber necking while driving? This is the podcast for you. This NOT so family friendly podcast has your hosts combing through local forums and petty posts to find the wildest neighbor stories out there. This gives you the same rush as peeking through your blinds or catching up with that dog-walking lady in your neighborhood that knows everybody’s business. Each episode features a call from a comedian to end up with an hour of entertaining content. People are wild.
Roy’s Job Fair with Roy Wood Jr.
Do you enjoy the comedy stylings of Roy Wood Jr? If YES or KINDA then this may be a good choice to break up the monotony of your day. Each episode, Roy sits down with real people from all lines of work and chats about jobs they’ve had, vacancies they’re looking to fill, scams they’ve run at the office, and even a few cringe-worthy office romances. It is fascinating to learn about all differnt kinds of professional and get the behind the scenes notes from a first person point of view. Its even better when you get to do that and laugh.
There you have it. These are sure to provide you with entertainment but also you may even learn a thing or two. There are a lot of talking heads and people with a microphone recording their voices for all to hear. We all know that they aren’t all talking about stuff that we want to hear…but some of them really are.
